Teodross Avery Recognized for Top Jazz Song of 2019
The music of Teodross Avery, jazz saxophonist and assistant professor of jazz studies and contemporary music at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), has been included among many of the genre's most celebrated musicians in jazz critic Scott Yanow's compilation of “The Top Jazz Recordings of 2019.” Yanow, who grew up in Los Angeles, is considered one of the music industry's most respected writers. His work includes 11 books, more than 850 liner notes, and close to 22,000 album reviews. CSUDH Receives Grant to Support Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault and Violence
California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has received a three-year, $298,719 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ's) Office of Violence Against Women to develop and launch the Grants to Reduce Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking on Campus Program at CSUDH. Established by Congress in 2006, the grant supports community-based approaches to enhance victim safety, provides services for victims/survivors, and supports efforts to hold offenders accountable. California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) Department of Theatre and Dance is holding dance auditions for its spring 2020 Student Dance Concert “Translucent” on Thursday, January 23, at 6 p.m. in the CSUDH Dance Studio (Gym A-102). Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Featuring choreography by CSUDH students, “Translucent” is an eclectic celebration of dance styles and the culmination of senior dance students' educational journeys at CSUDH. Philip Vieira’s Biosensor Research Could Lead to More Precise Drug Dosage
Philip Vieira, assistant professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, has been awarded a $438,000 multi-year grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to conduct research into biosensor technology that could lead to more precise prescribed drug dosage and, potentially, reduced addiction. Titled “High Precision Pharmacokinetic Measurements in Brain Using a Novel Aptamer-Based Biosensor,” the grant will enable Vieira to monitor and evaluate how the body interacts with drugs as they cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a semipermeable border that separates the circulating blood from the brain and cerebrospinal fluid in the central nervous system.
