Dr. Mildred García, president of California State University, Dominguez Hills, was in Washington D.C. at the start of the week to participate in the two-day National Education Summit and Call to Action hosted by the U.S. Department of Education. On Tuesday, she was one of only 10 Hispanic education leaders and students on stage with President Barack Obama as he signed the executive order renewing and revising the 20-year-old White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. The summit brought together administration officials with experts in education and Hispanic community leaders to discuss issues ranging from early childhood learning to higher education. The ... Univision’s Feria Es El Momento, Edúcate Brings Thousands to CSU Dominguez Hills

Univision Los Angeles brought its education fair, “Feria Es El Momento, Edúcate” to California State University, Dominguez Hills for a second year on Oct. 9. The event featured exhibitors from all levels of elementary, secondary, and higher education, as well as representatives of Chivas USA, health care organizations and other supplementary educational programs. The event was sponsored by Univision KMEX 34, Telefutura 46, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, CommuniCard, and CSU Dominguez Hills. Tri-Carson: Inaugural Event to Introduce CSU Dominguez Hills and City of Carson to Triathlete Community

The first Tri-Carson, a reverse triathlon that consists of a 5K run, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 200-meter swim will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23, on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills and surrounding streets just east of the university. The event, which is co-sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, is presented by the City of Carson, the Carson Chamber of Commerce, and CSU Dominguez Hills. For alumna Naomi Buckley (Class of '00, B.A., theatre arts), necessity has proven to be the mother of invention. CSU Dominguez Hills Launches Ridesharing Network

California State University, Dominguez Hills has partnered with Zimride to launch a social network for ridesharing. This free and private network for CSU Dominguez Hills students, faculty and staff empowers them to join together toward creating a more sustainable community. “We are excited about this partnership with Zimride, and the commuting opportunities it provides,” said Cynthia Jones-Hunter, CSU Dominguez Hills transportation coordinator. “Zimride’s solution is appealing to the entire campus, and will help us to reduce traffic on and around campus.” The Zimride platform uses Facebook integration to create a fun way to find individuals within the CSU Dominguez Hills community of ...
