Do smartphones make people smarter? When considering how they affect people's sleep, the answer is no, according to Larry Rosen, professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). Rosen and fellow CSUDH psychology professor Mark Carrier, along with three graduate students, surveyed more than 700 college students to study and determine how the use, and misuse, of technology affects the amount and quality of sleep they get each day. Andre Green navigates campus with a little help from ‘man’s best friend’

Fulbright recipient Kate Fawver returns from teaching American history in Russia
As California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) professor of history Kate Fawver focused on teaching United States history at Udmurt State University in Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurt Republic in Russia, she also enjoyed the opportunity to share her culture and learn about daily life in the provinces of Russia. Fawver returned to the U.S. on August 1 after spending a year as a visiting Fulbright U.S. Scholar in Russia. Active learning classrooms enhance collaborative learning and inspire new approaches to teaching
With the installation of three state-of-the-art active learning classrooms (ALC) this summer at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) many students will experience a more collaborative and empowering way of learning, while faculty develop more creative approaches to teaching. The new ALCs consist of two spacious classrooms in Welch Hall (WH 160 A; WH 160 B) that accommodate a total of 154 students, and a new Case Study Room in the University Library (LIB 5514). California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) alumna and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Carmelita Jeter helped the university welcome the incoming Class of 2015 at the second annual Freshman Convocation on Sept. 21.
