Our faculty members participate in conferences around the world, conduct groundbreaking research, and publish books and journal papers that contribute to their field and highlight their expertise. We feature those accomplishments and more in this section. College of Arts and Humanities Marisela Chavez, associate professor of Chicana/o Studies, appears in the documentary “East LA Interchange.” A screening of the film took place on Oct. 26 at CSUDH. First-Year Seminar introduces freshmen to rigors of upper-division course work

Yesenia Cardenas, a freshman at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) who plans to be fully entrenched in the study of criminal justice in a couple years, is already gaining the experience and exposure to the rigors of upper-division curricula in the university’s new First-Year Seminar program. Launched in fall 2015, the program is a “re-imagining of the university 101 course” for students to experience discipline-specific lecture that encourages debate and student engagement during class and activities. Music major Surenna Saffari Performs in NYC stage reading of ‘Paloma’

While on a New York City subway on his way to playing guitar in a stage reading of the play “Paloma” on Oct. 6, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) student Surenna Saffari was a bit taken aback when he heard a 23-year-old woman tell a friend “I just want to go somewhere and listen to some cool jazz music on my birthday.” “I haven’t met any other 23-year-old who would say that. It’s so rare for someone our age to listen to that kind of music,” said Saffari, a 25-year-old music performance major at CSUDH. “Jazz is the true beauty of American music. Study Abroad Fair showcases international study opportunities

“I had a trip of a lifetime, there is really no other way to put it,” said Jason Loyola, a senior business marketing major, regarding his recent study abroad experience in Santiago Chile. Loyola was among three students at the California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) Study Abroad Fair sharing their stories in hopes of encourage their peers to embark on a cultural exchange.
