Dr. Medina is an expert in English-as-a-Second Language.
Throughout her 30-year career, she published articles in professional journals and was a speaker at conferences throughout the United States. She worked as a community college ESL instructor, university professor, researcher and consultant for such organizations as the Kumon Institute, the National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Labor. She has also served as a consultant to numerous publishers including Cambridge University Press, Prentice-Hall, Pearson, Heinle & Heinle, McGraw-Hill, St. Martin’s Press and Sage publishing house.
She was a professor of modern languages at Westmont College and instructed English-as-a-Second Language at the University of Southern California’s (USC) American Language Institute and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). While a professor of Graduate Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills, Dr. Medina instructed courses in second language acquisition, testing and assessment of second language learners, and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) methodology.
She served as an officer in the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) organization. This is the largest organization of teachers of English worldwide and currently claims a membership of 13,000.
In 2005, she was the recipient of the Lyle E. Gibson Dominguez Hills Distinguished Teacher Award.
