With a land acknowledgement to the Tongva Nation by students Vanessa Esparza and Susanna Negrete–from the Pascua Yaqui Nation–to start the event, the CSUDH Strategic Planning Steering Committee launched the university's new 2022 Strategic Plan on March 3. The Strategic Plan positions CSUDH as a socially just, equitable, and inclusive model urban university, and will serve as a blueprint for the university over the next eight years. For his leadership and advocacy, California State University, Dominguez Hills President Thomas A. Parham will be recognized as the 100 Black Men of Los Angeles' Man of the Year at their 40th annual gala, which will take place virtually on Oct. 23. The nonprofit organization, dedicated to improving the quality of life for Blacks and other underrepresented racial groups, will also honor Congresswoman Maxine Waters as their Lifetime Achievement Awardee and LA County Supervisor Holly J. Commencement Delivers an Intimate Feel with Heartfelt Moments
While the number of graduates, and the family and friends cheering them on in person, was substantially less this year due to COVID-19, the scaled-down ceremonies for the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 Commencements helped mark a return to normalcy for the Toro Nation, and were some of most intimate and heartfelt in recent memory. Seven commencement ceremonies in all took place May 24-26 in the Tennis Stadium at Dignity Health Sports Park. To comply with public health guidelines, seating was restricted, with graduates sitting in the stands with two guests, instead of on the stadium floor.
