TRIO Student Support Services Receives $2.4 Million Grant

(Carson, CA) California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has received two U.S. Department of Education (DOE) grants totaling $2.4 million for the TRIO Student Support Services program to provide low-income and military veteran students the services and coaching they need to excel at CSUDH.  Student Support Services (SSS) is one of the eight federal “TRIO” programs that help support low-income and first-generation college students, and those with disabilities succeed in higher education. CSUDH Receives $1.6 Million for New Center for African Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians

California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has received a $1.6 million gift to create an endowment that will support historic and innovative research, preservation, and performance activities hosted by the new Center for African Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians, located in CSUDH’s College of Arts and Humanities. The gift was donated by the Georgia and Nolan Payton Foundation. The funds will support a variety of activities hosted by the center, including the continued preservation and digitization of new collections of spirituals, a broad arrangement of music/folk songs inspired by the hardships of enslaved Africans. CSUDH Offers New Master's Degree in Systems Engineering

Adding to CSUDH's growing list of master's level programs, the new Master of Science in Systems Engineering is officially up and running. The fall 2020 semester is the first for the new cohort-based degree program, which aims to fill distinct industry needs in the South Bay. A partnership between the College of Extended and International Education (CEIE) and the College of Natural and Biological Sciences (CNBS), the M.S. in Systems Engineering becomes the first engineering degree offered at CSUDH. Emeritus Professor Frank Stricker Examines History of American Unemployment in New Book

When CSUDH Emeritus Professor Frank Stricker's new book on unemployment was published in June 2020, it coincided with the worst jobless crisis in many decades. “I planned it that way,” he deadpans. Actually, Stricker spent almost a decade working on the book, titled “American Unemployment, Past, Present, and Future.” It was just a coincidence that the COVID-19 pandemic struck early in 2020 and caused massive job losses, but recent events have made Stricker's book even more timely. Stricker started teaching at CSUDH in 1972, and retired from the university in 2010. Although based in the History Department, he also taught courses in other disciplines. CSUDH Awarded Over $15 Million in Research Grants for 2019-2020

With more than $15.8 million in grants for research and creative projects awarded between July 2019 and June 2020, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) continues to bring in impressive grant totals, despite the radical disruption to last year’s academic calendar caused by COVID-19. This is a $2.3 million increase from CSUDH's 2018-2019 totals of $13.5 million.
