California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) Male Success Alliance (MSA) has received funding from the Sony Music Group to help support MSA members, and to develop new programs for male students of color at partner K-12 schools in South Los Angeles and the South Bay. With the Sony Music Group funding, 20 MSA members will receive a stipend through the MSA Scholarship Program, which requires scholars to actively participate and volunteer in its many programs and outreach efforts. (Carson, Ca.) The Male Success Alliance (MSA) at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has received $100,000 from Kaiser Permanente as part of $8.15 million in grants awarded to 40 nonprofit and community-based organizations across the nation for programing that addresses systemic racism. Kaiser announced the funding on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as part of a $25 million commitment the nonprofit health system made in June 2020 to promote health equity and address racism-driven stresses that lead to poor health outcomes. (Carson, Calif.) California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) innovative Male Success Alliance (MSA) program is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The first of its kind in California to address retention and graduation rates among male college students, and high school dropout rates and access to higher education for boys of color, the MSA has garnered accolades and the funding to help develop similar programs statewide. Nearly 800 Local Students Attend Male Success Alliance’s Annual Spring Summit
Eagerly seeking motivation and inspiration, nearly 800 young men of color from 18 middle and high schools converged on California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) on March 17 for the Male Success Alliance’s (MSA) 8th annual spring summit “Reclaiming Our Legacy” to learn how to reach their potential, and find the tools and resources to do so. Each spring, MSA hosts the day-long summit which attracts students from MSA partner schools from the Compton, Centinela, and Lynwood school districts.
