California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has been awarded a $227,262 Integrated Program Grants from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to develop four-year teacher preparation programs. The university was among 17 of 23 California State University (CSU) campuses to receive the grant. Currently, only seven CSU campuses–Bakersfield, Chico, Fresno, Long Beach, Monterey Bay, Northridge and San Marcos–offer four-year teacher preparation programs. CSU Dominguez Hills’ Praxis Studio Hosts First Youth Community Art Forum
After drawing the head on a sheet of paper, a high school student from Ranch Dominguez Preparatory School (RDPS) folds the paper to hide his drawing then passes to a classmate who draws the torso, who folds the piece again and then passes on to another who draws the legs. After repeating the process four times, a unique piece of “surprise art” is unveiled. The students were being taught an art technique called "exquisite corpse" to learn how to create collaboratively. CSUDH’s SLICE Center Displays more than 50 Native American Baskets
It has been a “strange and surreal” journey through Native American culture and history for Cheryl McKnight and her staff in CSU Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) Center for Service Learning, Internships and Civic and Community Engagement (SLICE). Since September 2016, Indian baskets from as far back as the mid-19th Century have been arriving at the center. Hermosa Beach's Scott Martin is heading to Thailand in January after being awarded the 2017 Rotary Peace Fellowship. He will be studying in the Rotary Peace Centers program at Chulalongkorn University, where he will receive training in peace and conflict resolution.
