Peace Pole Installation Marks End to Watts Rebellion Commemoration
As a symbol of inspiration, awakening, and the vital role California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) plays in the communities it serves, the university installed a peace pole on April 26 in the Sculpture Garden during the campus's annual Unity Fest celebration. The peace pole's unveiling and dedication marked the end to the university's year-long 50th Anniversary Watts Rebellion Commemoration. After five years as a member of California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) award-winning Western Model United Nations (WestMUN) delegation, Arnaud Lukombo has been nominated the prestigious position of secretary-general for the 2017 WestMUN conference. Lukombo's nomination came during the 2016 WestMUN conference at Santa Barbara City College on March 31-April 2. The secretary-general is the highest-ranking student position in the conference. When the last signature dried on the “promise agreement," college-ready high school seniors in Los Angeles Unified School District's (LAUSD) Local District-South were officially guaranteed admission into California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). The university hosted the agreement signing in the Loker Student Union ballroom on April 8. The signing represents the first time LAUSD has provided its high school graduates within one of its local districts guaranteed enrollment to a university.
