On Nov. 15, Bass was the featured speaker for the Presidential Distinguished Lecture Series, where she delved into her vision of civic engagement and leadership, guiding principles, and hopes for the future. Daily Breeze: Carson and CSUDH Begin New Paid Mentorship Program
Source: Daily Breeze Carson and Cal State Dominguez Hills have forged a new partnership that will allow students to gain paid experience working in the local government while contributing to projects that benefit the community. The City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 21, approved an agreement with CSUDH for a new mentorship program that will provide a small group of eligible students paid positions across various municipal departments, ranging from finance to engineering and information technology. Toro Basketball Shoots for Success
The 2023-24 season is shaping up to be an exciting one for both the men’s and women’s basketball squads at CSUDH. Despite some struggles in their early pre-season schedule, Toro coaches and players are looking forward to a successful year both on and off the court. Of course, the big story in Toro hoops last season was the CSUDH women’s team reaching the NCAA Elite Eight. The women ran up an astounding 31-3 record, at one point running off 19 consecutive victories. Being the first in your family to attend university is a phenomenal achievement—and one which too often requires overcoming barriers and hardships. That was the central message at CSUDH’s 5th Annual First Generation Celebration on Nov. 8, an event dedicated to the nearly 50 percent of Toro students who are forging this path for themselves and their families. Despite being sentenced to life in prison for murder without the possibility of parole in 1988, Scott kept his promise. Scott, 60, earned his first of eight associate’s degrees from Coastline Community College in 2010 while at Salinas Valley State Prison. His mother kept a copy of his first degree hanging on the wall so she could boast of her son’s accomplishments. As the marketing and public relations coordinator for Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), Raven Emmert is all about making connections and doing her best for the students she serves. “College is a really impactful time in one’s life and I want to ensure that CSUDH students are using their college experience as an opportunity to grow, lead, and blossom,” she says. In her role with ASI, Emmert manages the group’s social media accounts, as well as meeting with local media outlets to get the CSUDH story out to the public.
