California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has been awarded a $227,262 Integrated Program Grants from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to develop four-year teacher preparation programs. The university was among 17 of 23 California State University (CSU) campuses to receive the grant. Currently, only seven CSU campuses–Bakersfield, Chico, Fresno, Long Beach, Monterey Bay, Northridge and San Marcos–offer four-year teacher preparation programs. Nine undergraduate science students from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) gained valuable experience participating at the 2016 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) held Nov. 9-12 in Tampa, Florida. Reflecting this year's theme, “Diverse Voices, Diverse Science: A Future of Excellence in STEM Research,” the four-day conference is designed to encourage underrepresented minority students to pursue advanced training in STEM and provide faculty mentors and advisors with resources for facilitating students' success. Alumnus Cuauhtémoc Avila Wastes No Time Building Trust in School District
As the first Mexican American and youngest Latino school chief ever hired by the Rialto Unified School District (Rialto USD), Cuauhtémoc Avila understood that building trust in the community and among teachers, administrators, and support staff in his district would take some time, and he didn't waste a minute of it. CSU Dominguez Hills’ Praxis Studio Hosts First Youth Community Art Forum
After drawing the head on a sheet of paper, a high school student from Ranch Dominguez Preparatory School (RDPS) folds the paper to hide his drawing then passes to a classmate who draws the torso, who folds the piece again and then passes on to another who draws the legs. After repeating the process four times, a unique piece of “surprise art” is unveiled. The students were being taught an art technique called "exquisite corpse" to learn how to create collaboratively.
