Students on campus

Source: LAist Students and faculty weren’t on campus this past December when Cal State Fullerton quietly closed its WoMen’s and Adult Re-entry Center. Rebecca Dolhinow, a professor in the Women and Gender Studies Department, found out about it through passing comments at a Zoom meeting. When it finished, she emailed her colleagues to learn more. “What do you mean it's closed?” they wrote back. “What do you mean it's gone?” The center provided programming to support women, LGBTQ+, and nontraditional students, like parents and those who transfer to the university past the age of 25. The surprised faculty took these questions to university leadership. In response, Cal State ... Read More

Nanette Diaz-Barragán helped secure. The Democratic congresswoman, whose district includes Dominguez Hills, visited the university’s campus, near Carson, on Wednesday, May 4, to present the $700,000 in federal money that will help improve the training laboratory at the College of Health, Human Services, and Nursing. She has joined the Dymally Institute Fellows program, which exposes students of color to careers in politics and social justice. Diversity is needed. The California State Assembly and Senate have 120 members and ten are Black. Anthony Onwuegbuzia from the Institute ... Read More

Source: LAist Like the Madrigals in the beginning of “Encanto,” Paty Lozano does not want to talk about Bruno. Her one-year-old daughter watches the Disney animated film every day — sometimes more than once. Everyone else in the family is sick of it. But for baby Soleil, the musical fantasy set in Colombia is a type of salve, so much so that it’s enabled Lozano to do the impossible: take a shower during the day. Before jumping in for a quick rinse, Lozano drags Soleil’s high chair to the edge of the bathroom and straps her into place. Then, she puts another chair in front of the baby as an added safety measure and sets the iPad on her food tray. With Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash ... Read More
