Danny Bakewell Sr., founder and chairman of The Bakewell Company, one of the largest African American commercial real estate development groups in the western United States, will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) during its 2017 commencement. CSUDH will hold two college-based commencement ceremonies for its 4,500 graduating seniors on Friday, May 19. The Toyota USA Foundation is giving Cal State Dominguez Hills $4 million to build a science center focused on preparing students for careers in technology, engineering and math. Hermosa Beach Resident Awarded Rotary Peace Fellowship
Hermosa Beach's Scott Martin is heading to Thailand in January after being awarded the 2017 Rotary Peace Fellowship. He will be studying in the Rotary Peace Centers program at Chulalongkorn University, where he will receive training in peace and conflict resolution.
