Thousands of high school students throughout California have been able to earn college credit prior to graduation–saving them money and reducing their time to a college degree– through the California State University, Dominguez Hills Young Scholars Program, which turns 20 in 2014. Alumni Take on Role of Professor for a Day during Inaugural Event
Fifteen alumni and two friends of California State University, Dominguez Hills returned to campus to take on the role of professor during the university's inaugural Professor for a Day on Nov. 20 and 21. “As leaders in their respective fields, our alumni brought a wealth of professional knowledge and career advice to the classroom. In partnership with the California State University Office of the Chancellor, California State University, Dominguez Hills hosted the first in a series of United States Department of Education (DOE) public hearings on President Barack Obama's College Affordability Initiative on Nov. 6. Loren Uridel turned a personal misfortune into a fulfilling career. As a young boy he was an avid builder of model airplanes and dreamed of becoming a commercial airline pilot when he grew up. But when at the age of 13 he learned he could not meet the vision requirements for the profession, he had to consider alternative options. He realized he also enjoyed designing structures–which he had always included in his model airplane layouts. University Awarded Multimillion Federal Grant for School Leadership Initiative
California State University, Dominguez Hills has been awarded a multimillion dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Innovation and Improvement's School Leadership Program (SLP). More than $13 million of first-year funding was awarded for fiscal year 2013 to 20 educational institutions nationwide to support projects designed to recruit, train, and mentor principals and assistant principals for high-need schools and districts.
