California State University, Dominguez Hills President Mildred García has announced the creation of the Shell Oil Scholarship thanks to a recent donation from Shell Pipeline Company LP. The Shell Oil Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student from Carson or other South Bay cities who is in good academic standing and is majoring in one of the university's STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) degree programs. Larry Hauser (1948- 2011): Basketball Coach Mentored Pro Athletes
Larry Hauser, former men's basketball coach, died of complications from internal injuries earlier this month. The Chicago native served as the team's fourth coach from 1997 to 2004. During his tenure, Coach Hauser developed eight All-California Collegiate Athletic Association and two NCAA All-Region student-athletes while leading the program to a second-place league finish during his first season as head coach. Hauser graduated from Chicago State in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and earned his master's degree in English in 1973. This semester, elementary school teachers from rural schools in Central America and the Dominican Republic visited California State University, Dominguez Hills to learn about primary education in the United States and how to implement best practices in their schools at home. The visiting scholars were supported by the Scholarships for Education and Economic Development (SEED) program administered by the Center for Intercultural Education and Development at Georgetown University. Shedding Light on the Fall Dance Concert
“Moving through the Light” is a fitting name for the California State University, Dominguez Hills fall 2011 dance concert. The production, presented by the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, debuts a state-of-the-art lighting system, and will be performed by students on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10, at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre.
