The idea to take a group of students to Cuba stemmed from an academic visit that Jose Prado made to the island nation when he was a graduate sociology student more than 10 years ago. “I made a promise to myself that, like the professors who took me and other students to study in Cuba, I'd do the same when I became a professor,” he said. Nancy Erbe, professor of negotiation, conflict resolution and peacebuilding (NCRP) at California State University, Dominguez Hills, has been awarded the 2014-2015 Fulbright-PUC (Pontifícia Universidade Católica) Rio de Janeiro Distinguished Chair in American Studies. The highest level of Fulbright, the distinguished chair is most often awarded in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields, and only one has been awarded this year in American Studies for Brazil.
