California State University, Dominguez Hills graphic design major Paul Whisenhunt put some of his talents up against the wall–a wall on the first floor inside LaCorte Hall, to be precise. As part of the Art and Design Department's Art 342-Conceptualization class, associate professor of art design Michele Bury assigned 11 groups of students a “guerilla design” project, which exercised a form of art that utilizes public spaces and is commonly known as “street guerilla art.” The assignment was for students to install their guerilla art projects in various locations on campus. Veterans Alliance: Student Support Organization Screens Documentary on Nov. 10
In honor of Veterans Day, the Veterans Alliance, a student support group for veteran students at California State University, Dominguez Hills, will screen the documentary “Striking a Chord” on Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Loker Student Union. SEED of Change: Health Professionals from Latin Countries to Study at CSU Dominguez Hills
A grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been awarded to the California State University, Dominguez Hills College of Extended & International Education (CEE) to train nurses and other health professionals from the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua. The scholars are awardees of the Scholarships for Education and Economic Development (SEED) program administered by the Center for Intercultural Education and Development at Georgetown University. A reception honoring Chief Justice nominee Tani Cantil- Sakauye and former acting Lt. Gov. Mona Pasquil, the first Filipinas to serve in two of the highest offices in California government, took place on Oct. 23 in the South Wing of the University Library at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Jerry Moore: Anthropologist Establishes Consortium of Ecuadorean and Peruvian Scholars
Professor of anthropology Jerry Moore and Dr. Francisco Valdez of the Institut de Recherche Pour le Développpement (IRD) laid the groundwork for a bi-national collaboration between archaeologists in Ecuador and Peru this summer for long-term projects to explore the prehistory of the border regions between the two nations. The two-and-a-half week conference of international university students, archaeologists, and other scholars visited 15 ancient sites in Ecuador and Peru, viewed collections in national museums in both countries, and made public presentations to communities in La Libertad and Cuenca, Ecuador and in Tumbes and Piura, Peru.
