(Carson, Ca.) A recent economic impact study shows that California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) significantly contributes to the state’s economy, resulting in a $8.45 return on investment (ROI) for every dollar the state annually invests in the campus.
The comprehensive study illustrates the broad impact of the entire CSU system and its campuses, from direct earnings and spending of faculty, staff and students, to alumni earnings that can be attributed to their degree. Overall, the CSU system generates $26.9 billion in industry activity, $10.3 billion in labor income, $1.6 billion in state and local tax revenue, and $209,400 jobs.
The direct economic impacts attributed to CSUDH specifically include:
- $771 million in economic activity in the Los Angeles region from faculty, staff, students and campus spending; $815.2 million statewide
- 5,815 jobs created regionally; 6,022 statewide
- $48.8 million in state and local tax revenue
The study also shows that CSUDH alumni contribute an estimated $2.06 billion in economic activity regionally ($2.84 billion statewide), and more than additional $190.4 million in state and local tax revenue. Across the state, alumni earned an additional $2.3 billion as a result of their CSUDH degrees, which further enhances CSUDH’s ROI to $37.95 per dollar invested by the state

The study utilizes data from 2018-19 and was conducted by global advisory and digital services provider ICF, an international consulting firm specializing in economic impact studies. It provides a comprehensive look at the return on the state’s investment in the 23-campus California State University system.
