CSUDH Department of Theatre and Dance presents an in-person and livestreamed production of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis’ “The Motherf**ker with the Hat,” directed by faculty member Kelly Herman. The show will run April 13, 14, 15, and 16 at 7 p.m. and April 15 at 2 p.m. in the University Theatre.

“The Mother**ker with the Hat” is a brutally funny play about love and addiction, in which language, love, and fidelity are used as weapons. Jackie is just out of prison and is eager to resume his life, but jealousy gets in the way when he discovers another man’s hat in his girlfriend’s apartment. Jackie falls back into old habits as he tries to pummel his way through to his dreams and desires for a better life.  His insecurities are laid bare when he discovers that it is those you trust the most that can hurt you most deeply.

In its review of the play’s original Broadway run in 2011, The Wall Street Journal called it “tight, smart, and splendidly well-made-a tough-minded, unromantically-romantic comedy that keeps you laughing, then sends you home thinking.”

The CSUDH Department of Theatre and Dance once again will present its productions for an in-person and livestream audience. These dual theatrical modes create an interactive live studio experience for in-person attendees, providing them with a unique perspective.

Please note: All in-person performances are presented on the condition of current public health orders and may be canceled or offered virtually only. In-person audience members will be required to follow COVID-19 protocols, including wearing face coverings at all times and presenting proof of vaccine or a negative COVID-19 test from within the previous 24 hours.

Tickets to “The Motherf**ker with the Hat” are $18 (Students: $10) and may be purchased for either an in-person or livestream experience at www.csudh.edu/theatre/tickets or by calling (310) 243-3589. Note: This show features adult themes and is intended for mature audiences.

For driving directions and a map of campus, visit www.csudh.edu/directions. Parking permits are $9 and may be purchased at yellow kiosks in each lot.
