The excitement and anticipation of a new school year was in the air at the CSUDH Residential Hall as hundreds of Toro students moved into their on-campus homes for the next year.
Almost 350 students checked into their new rooms on Thursday, Aug. 21, with another 450 moving in on Saturday, Aug. 23. Excited students, parents, and friends kept the energy level high despite the soaring temperatures outside—checking in, getting their keys, and moving into their on-campus digs.
New students lined up early in Parking Lot 7, where they officially checked in and student and staff groups offered a variety of welcoming resources.
Jade Zarate was one of the new Toros in line early to start the move-in process. The first-year student from Downey, Calif., was eager to meet her new neighbors in the residence hall.
“I figured it would be easier and more convenient to live on campus,” she said. “Plus, I think I’ll really enjoy being in student housing. I’ve never experienced anything like this before!”
“I’m excited about living on campus because of the lifestyle that’s been built here,” said incoming Toro Joshua Balthazar. “I know a few people on campus already and am looking forward to building on that.”
The first-year student from Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., continued, “A lot of college is about the friendships you build over the years, finding people you can communicate with, helping each other out when you need it.”
Jayla Johnson, a first-year student from Carson High School, knows exactly what she’s most excited about for her first semester on campus. “I’m looking forward to the whole college experience. I’ve been waiting my whole twelve years of school for it!”
