Office Hours presents “Malahierba,” an exhibition featuring painting, ceramics, sculpture, poetry, and film. While citizens and non-citizens face uncertainty, we feel empowered by the strength of our diversity. Inspired by a rock en Español song, the exhibition brings together Latinx artists from different backgrounds. In the spirit of resilience, we make friends with the metaphor of the weed that refuses erasure. Because mala hierba nunca muere.

Malahierba” will run from April 24 through August 30, 2025 in LaCorte Hall B116. There will be a public opening on April 24 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

The show will feature work by CSUDH alumni Katie Mejia and Gabe Medina, Ecuadorian filmmaker Alexandra Cuesta, Peruvian poet César Vallejo, as well as current CSUDH students Issac Covarrubias, Cynthia Ortega, David Ruvalcaba, and Cindy Velasquez.

Malahierba” is curated by CSUDH senior art student Iris Natividad, who is graduating in May. Natividad is an interdisciplinary artist working with oil painting, textiles, oral histories, installation and video. Natividad is a first generation Mexican American and third generation seamstress from Los Angeles and Palmdale. She reconstructs memories and materials stitching together denim, canvas, and images from familial archives. Natividad’s decade of work in the garment factories of the Los Angeles Fashion District is the foundation for her portrayal of a narrative stitching together the immigrant experience with the history of labor in the United States.
