Professional Background
Vieira began his research pursuits studying human time perception using electroencephalography at Fresno State University. His interests shifted toward neurobiological correlates of memory while a graduate student at the University of California, Riverside. As a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara, he focused his work on drug addiction, helping to develop novel in vivo biosensors for real-time tracking of drug pharmacokinetics.
A former McNair Scholar at CSUDH and Ford Fellow, Vieira is also interested in issues related to higher education diversity. He studies pedagogical strategies to support underrepresented student success in STEM fields and has been awarded external research grants to support this work from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
