This fall, CSUDH will take a significant step toward building a more connected, dynamic, and engaging campus experience for Toros with the opening of new housing, dining, and health and recreation facilities. It’s a particularly remarkable moment for the residential experience on campus and collectively, these thoughtfully-designed additions will go a long way toward enhancing the day-to-day experience for students and facilitating community-building.
Helping to support this exciting new phase of the residential experience is Dr. Jeff Cooper, Interim Executive Director, Housing & Residential Education.
Dr. Cooper brings more than two decades of experience in higher education and student affairs, with a focus on building inclusive residential communities and leading large, complex housing operations. Most recently, he served as Director of Student Housing and Residential Life at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), where he oversaw a $46 million operation serving more than 3,800 residential students. Dr. Cooper has also been an active leader in the Association of College and University Housing Officers–International (ACUHO-I) for more than 15 years, currently serving as Business Practices and Enhancement Director. His leadership helped CSUMB earn the 2022 ACUHO-I Presidential Service Award.
Dr. Cooper’s work has consistently centered on expanding access, strengthening student engagement, and aligning residential life with student success. He has led organizational growth initiatives that increased participation and retention, implemented data-informed strategies to improve outcomes, and developed living-learning communities that support a diverse range of student needs.
At CSUDH, Dr. Cooper will help guide the continued evolution of our residential experience, ensuring that the university’s expanding housing footprint is matched by its sense of community, belonging, and the opportunity it provides for every Toro.
