CSUDH graduate student Esmond Epuna isn’t someone who lets obstacles or challenges stand in his way – whether it’s a school abruptly closing its doors or the daunting task of a cross-country commute. Currently pursuing a master’s in cybersecurity, Epuna hasn’t let anything distract him from his dreams. Epuna graduated from high school in 2013, then started taking courses at El Camino College. He soon transferred to the for-profit technical college ITT Technical Institute. Toro Baseball Looks to Solidify Progress
Under head coach Tyler Wright, the CSUDH baseball program has risen in stature year by year and is now considered one of the mainstays at the top of the conference standings. CSUDH Ranked First in the Nation for Social Mobility
CSUDH has been ranked first in the nation on CollegeNET, Inc.’s 2023 Social Mobility Index, a benchmark for universities according to how effectively they graduate students from low-income backgrounds into good-paying jobs. The 2023 Social Mobility Index (SMI) includes 1,198 four-year institutions. Four other CSU campuses placed among the top ten. The Index utilizes five variables in making assessments, including tuition, economic background, graduation rate, early career salary, and university endowment, with the greatest emphasis put on tuition and economic background. CSUDH Partners with LA Community Colleges
California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding during a Board of Trustees meeting at the district’s headquarters on Dec. 13 that will ensure the seamless recruitment, retention, and graduation of LACCD students at CSUDH. The partnership will provide better support to LACCD students intending to transfer to CSUDH, increase the transfer rate of LACCD students to CSUDH, and improve the number of students from the district attending a four-year college. Toro Basketball Shoots for Success
The 2023-24 season is shaping up to be an exciting one for both the men’s and women’s basketball squads at CSUDH. Despite some struggles in their early pre-season schedule, Toro coaches and players are looking forward to a successful year both on and off the court. Of course, the big story in Toro hoops last season was the CSUDH women’s team reaching the NCAA Elite Eight. The women ran up an astounding 31-3 record, at one point running off 19 consecutive victories.
