University Art Gallery Welcomes Return of Shoebox Sculpture Exhibit

California State University, Dominguez Hills is pleased to welcome the “10th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition” to the University Art Gallery for a one month showing from February 2 to March 1. The University Art Gallery hosted the fourth, eighth and ninth editions of this popular exhibition in 1992, 2004 and 2007. Organized by the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Art Gallery, the 10th edition will feature 80 sculptures small enough to fit into a shoebox by a roster of well-known international artists. Film of 1910 Air Meet Shown at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

A film of the 1910 Air Meet was one of 14 works shown as part of a program titled, “A Century Ago: The Films of 1910,” at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last month in Los Angeles. The feature, “Aviation at Los Angeles, Calif.” was a production released by Essanay Films on Feb. 16, 1910. The archival collections at California State University, Dominguez Hills were acknowledged during the program and webpages from the university’s site were displayed at the theater as part of the presentation. ”Aviation at Los Angeles, Calif.” shows the 1910 Aviation Meet at Dominguez, which was largely made possible by heirs of Manuel Dominguez, who donated the use of the Rancho San Pedro ... Guerilla Art Project Takes to LaCorte Hall

Graphic art major Paul Whisenhunt helped launches a guerilla art project in LaCorte Hall

California State University, Dominguez Hills graphic design major Paul Whisenhunt put some of his talents up against the wall—a wall on the first floor inside LaCorte Hall, to be precise. As part of the Art and Design Department’s Art 342-Conceptualization class, associate professor of art design Michele Bury assigned 11 groups of students a “guerilla design” project, which exercised a form of art that utilizes public spaces and is commonly known as “street guerilla art.” The assignment was for students to install their guerilla art projects in various locations on campus. Unveiling of “Manifest Diversity” Celebrates Mural of Diverse American History

The CSU Dominguez Hills community celebrated the unveiling of "Manifest Diversity" on Sept. 9 with student artists and volunteers, President Mildred García; Karen Bass, California Assembly Speaker Emeritus and CSU Dominguez Hills alumna; Eliseo Art Silva, nationally renowned muralist; and Lui Amador, coordinator, Multicultural Center.

On Sept. 9, students, faculty and staff, alumni, and other community supporters gathered near the Loker Student Union at California State University, Dominguez Hills for the unveiling of “Manifest Diversity,” a mural that was created under the guidance of muralist Eliseo Art Silva. The large-scale work with its depiction of a multiethnic view of American history as painted by students and volunteers from the university community is now on view in the Multicultural Center. “Manifest Diversity,” which was inspired largely by the writings of historian and social activist Howard Zinn, features approximately 95 images of individuals and iconic scenes in American history, from Pre-Columbian ... As part of the 50th anniversary of California State University, Dominguez Hills, the university’s Multicultural Center (MCC) will unveil “Manifest Diversity,” a large-scale multimedia mural created by students under the guidance of award-winning and nationally recognized Los Angeles muralist Eliseo Art Silva on Sept. 9. The mural was created to celebrate the diversity of CSU Dominguez Hills and its surrounding areas, as well as historical social accomplishments that have contributed to a more inclusive and multicultural America.
