The CSUDH Dance team has devoted itself tirelessly to the success of their fellow student athletes for nearly two decades. In Daytona Beach, Fla. on April 6-8, their performance in the finals of the Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship brought national attention to their fierce commitment as representatives of the university and its athletic traditions. The Toro dancers won the Division II National Championship in the newly created Spirit Rally category. Their standout performance among some 8,500 other participants from 430 colleges and universities across the country, capped a season that also saw unprecedented success for several of the university's other athletic ... CSUDH Alumna Kristin McGuire Honored as Guardian of Democracy
For CSUDH alumna Kristin McGuire, executive director/CEO of political advocacy group Young Invincibles, the desire to help change society for the better is more than a passing fancy. “It's in my family's DNA,” she says. McGuire's great-grandfather attempted to build the first Black-owned store in his Southern community–until the Ku Klux Klan burned it down. Her grandmother was the first Black radio DJ in their area, and her mother was one of the first Black students to integrate her Alabama school system, at the age of seven years old. “You hear the story of Ruby Bridges, but there were a lot of Ruby Bridges out there, and my mom was one of those,” says McGuire. “To this day in her ... John Price Wins 2023 Excellence in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Award
To hear John Price tell it, his work in experimental physics most resembles the preparation of an Ikea assembly guide. “What I'm trying to do is better understand the structure of the atomic nucleus and its constituents–protons and neutrons,” says Price, professor of physics at CSUDH. “Let's say you go to Ikea and purchase a proton construction kit. I'm one of the guys writing the book that explains how it gets put together.” Price has spent the better part of two decades pioneering research into how short-lived beams can be used to better map atomic nuclei. It is in acknowledgement of this groundbreaking research that Price has been named the 2023 Excellence in Research, ... Read More
