Graduation 2017: CSU Dominguez Hills hosts largest graduating class in school’s history

Cal State Dominguez Hills hosted its two graduation ceremonies Friday at StubHub Center in Carson. The first ceremony took place at 9 a.m. and the second took place at 4 p.m. Both were part of the largest graduating class in the school's history. One notable graduate, L.A. Galaxy soccer player Gyasi Zardes, celebrated on the same field where he won the Major League Soccer Cup in 2014. Galaxy’s Gyasi Zardes earns college degree from Cal State Dominguez Hills

LA Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes famously told MLS fans that his skill will blow their minds when leaving college four years ago, but on Friday he accomplished something with his own mind. The 25-year-old graduated college Friday morning, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Cal State Dominguez Hills. He attended Cal State Bakersfield for three years before leaving and signing a Homegrown Player contract prior to the 2013 season. Johnny Gonzales could play it safe and buy an expensive telescopic lens for his camera and stand on the sand to take his photographs, but “What fun would that be?” To capture a charging backside ride up close, he would rather strap on his fins, grab his camera, and swim out to where the waves are breaking to join a professional surfer inside a barrel. Gonzales, a Redondo Beach resident, will graduate with his bachelor's degree in digital media arts (DMA) from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) May 19 with the College of Arts and Humanities' Class of 2017. Kendrick Jones Takes Only 3 Years to Graduate, Mentors Kids Along the Way

While most of his peers are taking five to six years, and the state of California wants them to finish in four, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) student Kendrick Jones asked himself, “Why not finish college in just three years?” So he did. Jones is studying social psychology at CSUDH and will receive his bachelor's degree in Africana Studies May 19 during CSUDH's 2017 Commencement ceremony.
