Bringing with him more than a decade of university administration experience and a life's story that illustrates what a dream and a college education can do for an individual, Ramon Torrecilha became California State University, Dominguez Hills's new provost and vice president for academic affairs on Feb. 20. Born in Brazil to a Puerto Rican father and Brazilian mother, Torrecilha spent much of his youth at a state school for poor children, where he took classes in the morning and worked in the fields in the afternoon. Award-winning novelist Susan Straight will discuss the writing process and her most recent work when she visits California State University, Dominguez Hills as the 2012 Patricia Eliet Memorial Lecture Series guest artist, on Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in the Loker Student Union Ballroom. Speed Networking Event Helps Students Quickly Hone Their Professional Skills
On March 7, the California State University, Dominguez Hills Career Center held its first-ever “Speed Networking with Working Professionals” for students and alumni. Professionals from local businesses and organizations volunteered their time to help students develop their networking and interview skills and gain insight into the working life they will embark on after graduating. Reprinted with permission from the California State University External Relations office White House education leaders met with a group of California State University (CSU) presidents and officials to discuss CSU's initiatives to improve college access and graduation of African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latino and Tribal students.
