Incoming Freshmen Take First Steps To Success with Summer Bridge Academy
More than 700 members of the incoming Class of 2014 filled the Loker Student Union Dominguez Ballroom on June 30 for the first day of Summer Bridge Academy and took the first steps to becoming the graduating Class of 2018. For the next six weeks, the students will be attending classes to improve their math and/or writing skills to meet the CSU's Early Start requirements prior to starting their freshman year. But beyond the classroom, Summer Bridge participants will be meeting with peer mentors, receiving tutoring from Supplemental Instructors (SIs) and taking part in numerous workshops to introduce them to campus life and the various resources available to them. Sergio Covarrubias Garcia, who became the first undocumented immigrant to receive a license to practice law in California, will speak at a special Inauguration Lecture on Monday, April 28, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Loker Student Union Ballroom The lecture is part of Inauguration Week activities at CSU Dominguez Hills leading up to the Investiture Ceremony of University President Willie J. Hagan on Friday, May 2. Forty-five California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) students along with 15 faculty, staff and administrators were part of the Inaugural CSUDH Women's Retreat: Dig Deep and Blossom that was held on Friday, March 21 through Sunday, March 23 at the American Jewish University.
