Dr. Kwame Zulu Shabazz, a faculty member in Africana studies at Winston-Salem State University, was the keynote speaker for the Herb Carter- Yvonne Brathwaite-Burke Distinguished Lecture Series held on Nov. 1. The annual event, which is presented by the Department of Africana Studies and the California African American Political and Economic Institute at California State University, Dominguez Hills, was attended by 250 students, faculty, and staff in the Loker Student Union. Veterans Week Celebrates Those Who Served
The Veterans Day observance at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) was marked by a week of events to thank and honor all military veterans among the students, alumni, faculty, and staff on the campus. President Mildred García greeted student veterans at an invitation-only luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the Loker Student Union. On Nov. 9, a “show-and-tell” exhibit of military equipment was presented by the CSUDH Veterans Alliance, a student-run organization. The 5th annual College of Business Administration and Public Policy Awards Luncheon at California State University, Dominguez Hills took place on Nov. 4 in the Loker Student Union. In Memoriam: Hedy Moscovici (1955- 2011)
Hedy Moscovici, professor of education, died on Nov. 4 following a long struggle with cancer; she was 56 years old. Deeply committed to fostering diversity and excellence in the teaching profession, she focused her research on the teaching of math and science in elementary, secondary and college levels. Anthropology Department Produces 3rd Cambodian Arts and Culture Exhibition
In collaboration with Cambodia Town, Inc., the Anthropology Department at California State University, Dominguez Hills presents the 3rd Cambodian Arts and Culture Exhibition on Saturday, Nov. 19 at MacArthur Park in Long Beach. The event, which showcases the art, language, and traditions of the largest Cambodian community outside of Cambodia, has provided an invaluable experience for students, who not only learn about ethnographic methods but also how to produce an exhibition about Cambodian culture.
