The CSUDH College of Education has been awarded $1.59 million through the U.S. Department of Education’s first-ever Augustus F. Hawkins Centers of Excellence Program, which aims to increase high-quality teacher preparation programs for teachers of color, diversify the teacher pipeline, and address teacher shortages. CSUDH was the only California university represented among the twelve institutions of higher education awardees, which were announced Feb. 15. CSUDH Receives $5.3 Million to Address Digital Divide in the South Bay
The CSUDH Workforce Integration Network (WIN) has been awarded $5.3 million through the National Telecommunication and Information Administration’s Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program (CMC). The funds will support “Closing the Digital Divide with CSUDH-WIN,” an innovative outreach effort which connects CSUDH students with partnering organizations to provide training, equipment, and technology resources to members of the community. CSUDH is one of only 19 institutions awarded CMC grants to date, and one of only three in Southern California. College of Education Awarded $2.57 Million Grant
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the College of Education a five-year, $2.571 million grant in support of Project MEDALLA (Multilingual Educator Development Advancing Language Learning Achievement/Activism), which aims to create a network of certified bilingual educators in the greater Los Angeles area. Until the 2016 passing of the Multilingual Education Act in California, English immersion classes had been required for English learners in the state. Now, by law, schools must provide dual language programs if requested by enough parents. The CSUDH Workforce Integration Network (WIN) has been selected as the recipient of the Volcker Alliance’s Government-to-University Talent Connection Grant. The $40,000 grant supports WIN’s innovative outreach effort: From Public Sector Job Aggregator Tool to CSU Public Sector Alliance. CSUDH Part of $1.8 Million National Science Foundation Grant
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded funding to six institutions from the California State University (CSU) system, including CSUDH, to help transform the early curriculum experience of historically marginalized students in computing. The alliance brings together CSUDH, CSU Fullerton, CSU Los Angeles, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and San Francisco State University, campuses which have identified that a disproportionate percentage of underrepresented minority students drop out of their computer science major in the first two years of study.
