Anne Soon Choi

Anne Soon Choi loves to teach. As professor and chair of Interdisciplinary studies, she is passionate about engaging students in critical thinking, enabling them to personally connect to their coursework, and facilitating hands-on learning. “The best way to learn is by doing,” Choi says. “The most important thing is that my students walk away with skills that can be applied to their lives.” That enthusiasm for teaching has earned Choi the 2022 Lyle E. Gibson Distinguished Teacher Award, given in honor of CSUDH’s late founding vice president for Academic Affairs. For Anne Garrett, there is one skill that college graduates simply can not do without. “No matter what career someone goes into, it's important that they be able to write competently,” she says. That's why the former composition professor in the interdisciplinary studies program at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) devoted her career to developing those skills in her students. “Working on writing can be a vulnerable and delicate issue, but I've been continually amazed by my students' receptivity. Vivian Price is respected by her peers and admired by her students, many of whom have become active partners in her creative work and causes, from filmmaking and research around equity, race, and gender, to environmental racism and climate change. Seven Interdisciplinary Studies Students and Co-Workers Graduate Together

Already busy with full-time jobs and family obligations, seven co-workers with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) enrolled together in California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) program in fall 2017, adding a full schedule of college courses to their hectic lives. Yet, they finished early, and graduated this spring with their bachelor’s degrees in IDS. On May 18, they celebrated together at CSUDH’s 2019 Commencement Ceremony. Professor Vivian Price Awarded Fulbright Scholarship to Teach in Liverpool, England

Vivian Price, professor of Interdisciplinary Studies/PACE and coordinator of Labor Studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), has been awarded a 2017-18 Fulbright Scholarship to teach at the University of Liverpool in England during the spring 2018 semester. In Liverpool, Price will teach a course focused on labor studies and the environment that is tailored to the region. Her students will research how trade unions and the Labour Party are addressing the important issues of jobs and the environment.
