Ninth Annual Student Research Day: A Rewarding Experience in Record Numbers
Record numbers marked the ninth annual California State University, Dominguez Hills Student Research Day (SRD) on Feb. 13. This year SRD featured the work of 316 students and 63 faculty mentors–a 70 percent increase in participation within the last three years alone. Student Researchers Perfect Presentation Skills During PEGS Boot Camps
Student researchers at California State University, Dominguez Hills had the opportunity to hone their presentation skills during boot camps offered on Feb. 1 and 8 by the university's Promoting Excellence in Graduate Studies (PEGS) program. Leena Furtado, professor and chair of the Division of Graduate Education, who is also the director and principle investigator of PEGS, said PEGS created the boot camp workshops to assist a growing number of CSU Dominguez Hills students who present at conferences. Alumna Eileen Yoshimura: History Repeats Itself
It is often said that history repeats itself. This is true for alumna Eileen Yoshimura. At least in one context. In the mid-1970s as an undergraduate student initially majoring in English at California State University, Dominguez Hills, Yoshimura enrolled in a general education history class taught by Donald Hata, now emeritus professor of history. “[Hata] made history so exciting that I decided to major in history,” the Los Angeles native and Montebello resident recalled. “He also gave me the opportunity to work on the Dominguez family papers doing research. Eleven seniors majoring in health sciences at California State University, Dominguez Hills presented details of their research at two high-level conferences during the fall semester.
