An outstanding group of student researchers in the sciences at California State University, Dominguez Hills had the opportunity to attend the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) in St. Louis, which was held Nov. 9 through 12. Many of the students presented posters based on their research with faculty mentors, and were able to receive feedback from fellow students, faculty, and administrators at institutions from around the world. CSU Dominguez Hills Conducts Great California Shakeout Earthquake Drill
From students who dutifully trooped out to the Sculpture Garden to designated staff members who were responsible for evacuating campus buildings, the CSU Dominguez Hills community participated in a statewide earthquake drill, the “Great California Shakeout,” on Oct. 20. Approximately 8.6 million Californians took part in the exercise, which was enacted by residents, businesses, and public agencies throughout the state. Rosemary Diaz: Alumna Encourages Female Scientists to Reach for the Stars
Although the female student population is the majority at California State University, Dominguez Hills–at approximately 70 percent–when Rosemary Diaz (Class of '00, B.S., physics) was an undergraduate, she was the only female physics major at the university. Three students from California State University, Dominguez Hills took top honors at the 25th Annual CSU Student Research Competition, a systemwide event featuring the best academic projects from approximately 225 students at 21 of the 23 CSU campuses held at CSU Fresno on May 6-7. Janine Gasco: Reliving that ‘Ah-Ha’ Moment, One Student at a Time
When on vacation in Mexico as 20-year-old college drop-out, Dr. Janine Gasco came to a realization that eventually evolved into her life's work.
