Jovany Paz Named Honorary Ball Boy for the LA Lakers after His Essay Wins Male Success Alliance Writing Contest
With the help and guidance of Male Success Alliance (MSA) student mentor Robert Head, high school junior Jovany Paz won a multi-school essay contest and the opportunity to serve as honorary ball boy on Feb. 28 when the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Charlotte Hornets at the Staples Center. California State University, Dominguez Hill's (CSUDH) new Black Resource Center (BRC), which is nicknamed “The Rose” after Tupac Shakur's poem “The Rose That Grew From Concrete," will officially open with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 21, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., in Loker Student Union Room 132. “The center serves as a safe space for African-American students on campus,” said Jonathan Henderson, coordinator of the BRC, at a recent meet-and-greet. “A lot of them experience problems with the university's process–navigating it academically and finding assistance–and how to get together socially. CSUDH’s SLICE Center Displays more than 50 Native American Baskets
It has been a “strange and surreal” journey through Native American culture and history for Cheryl McKnight and her staff in CSU Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) Center for Service Learning, Internships and Civic and Community Engagement (SLICE). Since September 2016, Indian baskets from as far back as the mid-19th Century have been arriving at the center.
