CSUDH business students help prepare SoCal ROC students for the workforce
Business management students from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) conducted mock job interview sessions to learn essential management techniques, while helping students enrolled at the Southern California Regional Occupational Center (SoCal ROC) gain real-world interview skills to compete in today's competitive workforce. The SoCal ROC Service Learning Project took place on March 2, and included approximately 70 CSUDH students and local business professionals leading practice interviews with as many as 400 high school and other students studying a variety of occupations, from dental assistant and physical therapy aide, to welder and automobile mechanic. “The ... The idea to take a group of students to Cuba stemmed from an academic visit that Jose Prado made to the island nation when he was a graduate sociology student more than 10 years ago. “I made a promise to myself that, like the professors who took me and other students to study in Cuba, I'd do the same when I became a professor,” he said. Azario Cush, a sixth grader at Wilmington Middle School, already has his sights set on college; he wants to study culinary arts. Brenda Galvan, a 10th grader at Synergy Quantum Academy Charter High School in Los Angeles, is trying to decide what area of engineering she'd like to specialize in when she gets to college. Joseph Gardner, a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Riverside, wants to major in cinematography.
