Thalia Gomez says that when she began attending California State University, Dominguez Hills, she had no idea what a Ph.D. was. From its beginnings in 2005 as a small discussion group for black female students residing in campus housing, Sisters United has grown to encompass the needs of all African and African American female students at California State University, Dominguez Hills. By facilitating one-on-one mentorships with faculty or staff members, the program has been instrumental in ensuring the success of students by helping them balance maintaining academic excellence with all other aspects of their lives. Univision Los Angeles brought its education fair, “Feria Es El Momento, Edúcate” to California State University, Dominguez Hills for a second year on Oct. 9. The event featured exhibitors from all levels of elementary, secondary, and higher education, as well as representatives of Chivas USA, health care organizations and other supplementary educational programs. The first Tri-Carson, a reverse triathlon that consists of a 5K run, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 200-meter swim will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23, on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills and surrounding streets just east of the university.
