The Department of Theatre and Dance at CSUDH is proud to present Clyde’s, the critically acclaimed play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage, directed by Jozben Barrett. Performances will run from Oct. 8–11 and 15–18 at 7:00 p.m., with matinee performances on Oct. 10 and 17 at 1:00 p.m. in the Edison Theatre.
Clyde’s is a poignant, darkly comedic story set in a truck stop sandwich shop where formerly incarcerated employees seek redemption and purpose while navigating the challenges of rebuilding their lives. Under the tough exterior of their boss, Clyde, lies a space for second chances, creativity, and resilience. The play explores themes of forgiveness, identity, and the healing power of shared experience with plenty of humor and heart.
Director Jozben Barrett brings this vibrant and timely piece to life with a talented cast of CSUDH students, inviting audiences to reflect on the deeper truths behind second chances and the American dream.
“What excites me most about directing Lynn Nottage’s Clyde’s is how it balances sharp comedy with deep humanity. At its core, the play is about resilience, redemption, and the power of community,” said Director Jozben Barrett.
“It brilliantly spotlights the people who have been pushed to the margins yet continue to dream and rebuild. At CSUDH, our students bring their own diverse lived experiences into the work, making the story feel urgent, authentic, and alive. I believe audiences will leave not only entertained but also reminded of the transformative strength found in hope, fellowship, and second chances.”
