Community Members Take Part in National Park Service Planning Meeting on Tule Lake
Several Japanese Americans and other community members interested in the history of the forcible removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II assembled on the fifth floor of the Library's South Wing at California State University, Dominguez Hills on July 25 to discuss a vision for the Tule Lake Unit of World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument. The annual African American Leaders of Tomorrow (AALT) conference sponsored by the California Legislative Black Caucus was held this year on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, which was ranked first among universities in the state in the number of bachelor's degrees conferred to black students, according to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine. California State University, Dominguez Hills is recognized as one of the nation's top 100 universities granting undergraduate and graduate degrees to minority students, according to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. In the magazine's “Top 100 Undergraduate Degree Producers” published this month, CSU Dominguez Hills ranked 52nd nationally in total number of bachelor's degrees–and 85th in total number of master's degrees–awarded to minority students during 2011-12, the year of the most current data reported to the U.S. Department of Education.
