California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) faculty and students who have been active in plans to turn a long-contaminated parcel of land in unincorporated Los Angeles County into a neighborhood park are celebrating. In November, Margaret Manning, lecturer in the Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding Program, joined CSUDH students, local residents, neighborhood activists, and industry and civic leaders for a groundbreaking ceremony for Wishing Tree Park. O&P Society Raises Funds for Physically Challenged Boy to Compete in Triathlon
The Orthotics and Prosthetics (O&P) Society student organization at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) made it possible for 12-year-old Zion Redington, who has ectrodactyly and was born with one finger on each hand and one toe on each foot, to compete in 25th Annual Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge Oct. 19-21 in La Jolla, Calif. The O&P Society raised $2,000 for Zion and his mother, Heather Redington-Whitlock, to fly from their home in Franklin, Tenn., to La Jolla, and to register Zion in the triathlon. Faith Leaders Welcome President Parham During Clergy Breakfast
Nearly 100 religious leaders joined President Thomas A. Parham for a California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) Clergy Breakfast on Nov. 6 to establish new bonds between the university and churches in the region. The Clergy Breakfast is a tradition for CSUDH presidents. To build more personal relationships, this year's gathering was smaller and more intimate, enabling Parham to interact with attendees in the University Library in a more relaxed setting. University Garners Delphi Award for Support of Non-Tenure-Track Faculty
For its success in connecting its support for non-tenure-track faculty to improved mental health counseling for students, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has been honored with the inaugural Delphi Award from the USC Rossier School of Education's Pullias Center for Higher Education. Announced by the Pullias Center on Oct. 16, CSUDH will officially receive the Delphi Award and its $15,000 prize Jan. 24, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. One four year college/university and one two-year college receive this recognition each year. Harper College, a community college in Palatine, Illinois, has also been named a recipient of the award.
