Sharrell D. Luckett, assistant professor of theatre at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), is helping her students in the Performance Studies and Arts Research Collective “harness their artistic ingenuity” while discovering their true selves through the study of others. Student Research Day caps off decade of consistent growth, student achievement
With consistent growth during an entire decade of outstanding student research, faculty mentorship, and well-deserved accolades, the 10th Annual Student Research Day (SRD) at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) highlighted an event poised for expansion for years to come. This year 352 students shared their research throughout the top floor of the Loker Student Union and in the University Library in the form of 237 presentations and posters, making it the largest SRD to date. “Crossing Borders: Stories of Migration in Contemporary Art,” a new exhibit in the California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) University Art Gallery, opened Oct. 22 to packed room of artists and enthusiasts who were treated to artistic examinations centered around the U.S.-Mexico border where migrants often find themselves at odds with cultural bias and political issues. Professor Needham Shines Light on Cambodian Shadow Puppetry
Despite its name, shadow puppetry glows from a spiritually whimsical manipulation of light; although there was a time when an unfathomable darkness nearly wiped the little-known art form out of existence. From 1976 to 1979, nearly 90 percent of the artists in Cambodia, where shadow puppetry was created in the early ninth century, were killed along with roughly 2 million others during the Cambodian Genocide carried out by the regime of the Khmer Rouge.
