Ninth Annual Student Research Day: A Rewarding Experience in Record Numbers
Record numbers marked the ninth annual California State University, Dominguez Hills Student Research Day (SRD) on Feb. 13. This year SRD featured the work of 316 students and 63 faculty mentors–a 70 percent increase in participation within the last three years alone. The Society of American Archaeology (SAA) has named Jerry Moore, chair of Academic Senate and professor of anthropology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, the recipient of its 2014 Book Award for his book, “The Prehistory of Home” (University of California Press, Berkeley, 2012). Moore will be formally recognized with the presentation of a plaque during the SAA's Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony to be held in Austin, Texas, on April 25. Terry McGlynn, associate professor of biology, was in Costa Rica in January at the Organization for Tropical Studies' La Selva Biological Station as a visiting professor for its Introduction to Tropical Ecology, a four-week course in field for graduate students. During the month students, who came from universities through the U.S. and abroad, also learned how to use video to share their work.
