Statement from President Hagan on Death of Two Students

January 8, 2015

Dear Campus Community,

carrisoza laboriIt is with great sadness I write to inform you that two of our students, Mr. Joseph Labori and Ms. Vanessa Carrisoza, both in their second year at CSU Dominguez Hills, died Tuesday night in Torrance when their car was struck head-on by another vehicle.

The University has been in contact with the families this morning to extend condolences and to offer assistance in their time of need. The families currently are finalizing plans for a joint memorial service and we will update the campus as details become available. Additionally, a fund has been established by family and friends to assist Joseph and Vanessa’s parents with funeral expenses. Donations can be made via goFundMe.

The loss of anyone from our campus is painful to bear, but it is particularly difficult when the loss is so sudden and happens to individuals so young and full of promise. As a reminder, grief counseling and support services are available through Student Health & Psychological Services (310-243-3818). I encourage you to use or refer others to these support services as necessary.

Sincerely,
Willie J. Hagan, Ph.D.
President
