CSUDH Parking Lot 3 will soon be the home of 203 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, as workers began adding the infrastructure improvements during the first week of March. The new charging stations are scheduled to be up and running by mid-May.
When construction is complete, CSUDH will have the most EV charging ports in the CSU system—more than double any other campus. “This level of infrastructure readies our campus to support both current usage and future growth in electric vehicle adoption,” says CSUDH Sustainability Manager Ellie Perry. “This aligns us with statewide policies supporting electric vehicle growth, and as an added bonus, enhances our ability to serve as an event venue for the 2028 Olympics and other mega-events.”
The new charging stations will be located in the second, third, and fourth rows of parking spaces outside Welch Hall. The construction will also add several ADA-accessible charging stations.
Funding for the new charging stations was obtained through Southern California Edison’s Charge Ready program, which helps provide financial incentives, infrastructure, and technical support to facilitate the installation of EV stations in the region. No university funds were used to pay for the infrastructure or construction, which is funded entirely through the Charge Ready program.
“Supporting clean transportation options for our campus is a key step in achieving our carbon neutrality commitments. This project will hopefully serve as an encouragement for existing campus drivers who are considering an electric vehicle for their next replacement to take the leap,” says Perry.
