In light of the ongoing protests and resulting nationwide conversations about racism in America, CSUDH President Thomas A. Parham announced the formation of a Racial Reconciliation Task Force in an email to the campus community. In announcing the group’s formation, Parham said that its function would be “to assist our campus in identifying ways in which this university can achieve greater degrees of congruence between our aspirational goals and the policies, practices, and institutional customs that frame our educational enterprise.”
The task force will be co-chaired by Donna Nicol, chair of the Africana Studies department, and Anthony Samad, director of the Mervyn Dymally African American Political and Economic Institute. The other members of the group will be announced soon, and meetings should begin shortly after the list is finalized. Parham added, “I look forward to the recommendations they will advance, and to closing the gap between the institution we aspire to be and the policies and practices that we engage in on a daily basis.”
