July 29, 2013

ReichardDr. Gary W. Reichard has been appointed interim provost and vice president of academic affairs at California State University, Dominguez Hills effective Monday, August 5.

“Dr. Reichard has more than 40 years of experience as an academic leader and faculty member and will provide the seamless and stable leadership necessary while we conduct a national search for a provost and vice president of academic affairs,” said University President Willie J. Hagan.

Reichard has over a decade of experience in the California State University system. He served as executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer of the California State University system from 2006 to 2009, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at California State University, Long Beach from 2002 to 2005,  and associate vice president for academic personnel, planning and assessment at CSULB  from 1994-2002.

Other previous administrative appointments included director of the University Honors Program at the University of Delaware, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs in the University of Maryland system, and dean of undergraduate studies at Florida Atlantic University.

Reichard also has been a tenured faculty member in the history departments of The Ohio State University and all other institutions where he held administrative appointments, and served as department chair at both The Ohio State and Florida Atlantic University. A specialist in modern United States history, he received his Ph.D. from Cornell University, master’s degree from Vanderbilt University, and B.A. from the College of Wooster.

Since his 2009 retirement from the CSU, Reichard has held two interim provost positions: interim provost and vice president for academic and student affairs for the University of Louisiana System and interim provost at Trident University International.

A national search to fill the position of provost and vice president of academic affairs at CSU Dominguez Hills will commence in August after faculty and students have returned to campus.
