Following a nation-wide search, Willie J. Hagan, president of California State University, Dominguez Hills, has appointed Carrie E. Stewart as the university’s new vice president for university advancement. Her first day will be Jan. 13, 2014.
Stewart has more than 25 years of experience in university advancement, most recently as vice president of institutional advancement at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, a position she has held since 2011. At Otis she has successfully directed fundraising efforts for a $30 million comprehensive campaign, overhauled the institution’s marketing efforts, and achieved the second highest alumni annual giving participation rate among peer institutions.
“I am confident Ms. Stewart’s distinguished career working across every facet of university advancement and her familiarity with the CSU, both as a student and administrator, will provide our UA division and the university with the strategic leadership to move our institutional advancement to the next level,” President Hagan said.
Prior to Otis, Stewart spent more than 20 years in the CSU system, including 10 years as associate vice president for advancement, central development, and major events at CSU Fullerton, and six years at Cal Poly Pomona, where she served two years as executive director for university advancement and four years director of alumni affairs and coordinator of governmental relations. Her accomplishments within the CSU include coordinating state legislative efforts to secure $37 million for capital projects, providing guidance for the acquisition of $2 million for CSU Fullerton’s nursing program–the largest corporate gift in that university’s history–and leading several award-winning initiatives.
Stewart is also a product of the CSU. She holds a master’s degree in negotiation, conflict resolution and peacebuilding from CSU Dominguez Hills and a bachelor’s degree in physical education and kinesiology from CSU East Bay.
“I am thrilled to return to my alma mater as the vice president for university advancement,” Stewart said. “Cal State Dominguez Hills plays such a vital role in the region and beyond, and as an alumna I know of the transformative nature of the educational experiences that they offer. I look forward collaborating with the campus leaders, alumni, community members and supporters to continue the important work to advance the university.
The Division of University Advancement supports the academic mission of CSU Dominguez Hills through community and philanthropic engagement. Within the division are the offices of Alumni Programs, Development, Government and Community Relations, Parent and Family Programs, University Communications and Public Affairs, and University Ceremonies and Events.
