University Art Gallery and PRAXIS Awarded $45,000 for Artist Patrick Martinez Residency
California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) University Art Gallery and PRAXIS art engagement program have received two grants totaling $45,000 to support the residency of Los Angeles-based artist Patrick Martinez and an exhibition of his work. The National Endowment for the Arts granted PRAXIS $30,000 from its first round of national awards in 2021 of more than $27.5 million for projects that span 14 artistic disciplines. The grant was awarded in the “Visual Arts” category. The Pasadena Art Alliance (PAA) has also contributed to the Martinez residency and exhibition in a significant way with an additional $15,000 grant. Studio Art Students Teach Carson Kids Online in PRAXIS CAP Pilot Program
With a webcam fixed in a way that hid his work, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) Studio Art major Jacqueline Mendoza was intrigued by how hard her young student was working with pipe cleaners and a transparent grid to create a sculpture of the Watts Towers. When the boy lifted his artwork, Mendoza was amazed by the amount of work he had produced, and how excited he was to share it. Mendoza is a teaching artist assistant in CSUDH's PRAXIS City ArtS Parks (PRAXIS CAP), which provides an artistic outlet to youth 8-11 years of age in the City of Carson during COVID-19 through a series of free virtual Zoom courses. CSUDH wins $100,000 Getty Research Grant for PST Initiative
(Carson, CA) - California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) University Art Gallery has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Getty Foundation. The funds will be used to conduct research related to the gallery's contribution to the next Pacific Standard Time initiative in 2024, which this time focuses on the relationship between art and science. Entitled “Brackish Waters Los Angeles,” the CSUDH project will revolve around the concept of brackish water sites, areas where fresh and ocean water intermix.
