CSUDH Receives $5.3 Million to Address Digital Divide in the South Bay

The CSUDH Workforce Integration Network (WIN) has been awarded $5.3 million through the National Telecommunication and Information Administration’s Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program (CMC). The funds will support “Closing the Digital Divide with CSUDH-WIN,” an innovative outreach effort which connects CSUDH students with partnering organizations to provide training, equipment, and technology resources to members of the community. CSUDH is one of only 19 institutions awarded CMC grants to date, and one of only three in Southern California.  CSUDH-WIN is designed to address digital inequities, such as access to laptops, Internet, skills training, and technical support. Anne Soon Choi loves to teach. As professor and chair of Interdisciplinary studies, she is passionate about engaging students in critical thinking, enabling them to personally connect to their coursework, and facilitating hands-on learning. “The best way to learn is by doing,” Choi says. “The most important thing is that my students walk away with skills that can be applied to their lives.” That enthusiasm for teaching has earned Choi the 2022 Lyle E. Chemistry Lecturer Barbara Belmont has been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Trailblazer in Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), the newsmagazine of the American Chemical Society. Belmont, an analytical chemist from Pasadena, is “thrilled and humbled” by the accolade, which recognizes her excellence in teaching, as well as activism with Out to Innovate, a professional society dedicated to LGBTQ+ visibility in the sciences, mentoring, and scholarships for students. CSUDH Recognized as Equity Champion for Latinx Transfer Students

December 2, 2021

CSUDH’s stalwart support for Latinx transfer students has earned the university recognition as a 2021 Equity Champion for Excellence in Transfer for Latinx Students. Announced at the Champions of Higher Education and Equity Champions for Excellence in Transfer annual awards ceremony, CSUDH’s honor reflected the university’s success in leading the state in supporting Latinx students through the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) program. ADT facilitates California Community Colleges (CCC) students in transferring to the CSU by guaranteeing a CSU campus admission to community college students who earn at least 60 units needed of a bachelor’s degree in a specific major.
